MOTORCADE FUNCTIONS:
On some international corporate executive protection (CXP) assignments, you may be traveling solo with your principal, but there is nothing like a team of well-trained security drivers to help achieve your security and safety goals and strengthen your road movement capabilities. On most EP (executive protection) assignments, two cars are a minimum as single vehicles are easy prey and more vulnerable to criminal attack. Safe ground transportation of your principal is one of the most important technical skills for an EPS (executive protection specialist) to have for optimum protection and safety requirements.
LEAD SECURITY VEHICLE:
The lead security vehicle performs continuous reconnaissance in order to provide the motorcade with route information. This includes obtaining clearance passes at checkpoints and restricted entrances so the motorcade can proceed unimpeded. The lead security vehicle also provides accurate warning of unexpected transportation risks such as accidents, breakdowns, obstacles and other potential security risks that could influence movement along the route. The lead security vehicle should have continuous lines of communication. The lead security driver should be situationally aware at all times, and the EPS passenger should remain alert and maintain 360-degree surveillance.
TAIL SECURITY VEHICLE:
The tail security vehicle, which provides close-in protection for the executive vehicle, is a primary proactive tool to assist in repelling potential transport ion risks from the flank and rear of the executive vehicle.
The tail security vehicle may also be used as an auxiliary executive vehicle in the event of breakdown or disablement. The tail security vehicle should have continuous lines of communication, and its driver should be situationally aware at all times. The EPS passenger should remain alert and maintain 360-degree surveillance.
EXECUTIVE VEHICLE:
The executive vehicle is the primary vehicle used for the transportation of the principal. The executive vehicle should be driven with the highest standards of comfort and safety. The security driver of the executive vehicle should be highly familiar with driving luxury-type vehicles and transporting top business people within a motorcade formation.
He or she should be situationally aware at all times. The DL, (detail leader) sitting in the front passenger seat, should maintain a well-organized communication link with the lead and tail security vehicles and should maintain positive control, leadership, focus and coordination. The DL ensures the motorcade stays on course, maintains communication with other drivers and makes certain that the principal arrives at the venue in a controlled and managed fashion.
ALL VEHICLES:
All vehicles used in the motorcade should be low profile in color and inconspicuous in make and model. All vehicles should be able to blend with the local road terrain and should be kept in immaculate condition inside and out in regards to appearance, maintenance and readiness. Good luck and God Speed.
